That is a demonstrable and lamentable reality.
ruth and Art are abiding values, regardless. The writing and reading of literature are immensely important. Never doubt that.
he Internet offers hope. The Internet may yet function as a source of new, varied and wonderful possibilities for readers and writers. That would be nice.
tephen King tried it. With great fanfare and the announced intention of legitimatizing e-books, he sold 750,000 copies of his novella, Riding the Bullet.
tephen King killed it. He killed the market for e-books. People thought, "Why should I look around for something new and exciting when the biggest brand name on the planet is right in front of me."
nd then they walked away to try something else besides e-books or besides books. Stephen King, himself, gave up on his second Internet project.
books' time may still come. There are new e-book ventures supported by deep-pocketed venture capitalists and I am encouraged by their belief in the medium.
